Rocco DeLorenzo completed his higher education at Cornell University, where he was part of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management. He earned degrees in Food Science, focusing on business, and Applied Economics and Management, with a specialization in strategy and food industry management. His academic journey was marked by a deep engagement with the intersection of business principles and food science, fostering a unique perspective on the food industry's business and scientific aspects.
Leadership and Engagement in Student Life
While studying at Cornell, Rocco was actively involved in various student organizations that enhanced his college experience. His significant involvement began with his membership in Chi Psi Fraternity, where he quickly assumed leadership roles as Risk Manager and Academic Chair. These roles, though initially small in scope, profoundly impacted him and prepared him for broader leadership responsibilities within the Cornell community.
During his sophomore year, he took on the role of VP of Membership and Alumni Development on the Cornell Interfraternity Council (IFC) Executive Board. This position placed him at the helm of a body governing 28 fraternities, impacting approximately 1,500 members. His tenure saw the development of significant initiatives like a comprehensive Hazing Prevention Training program and the organization of community-building events such as a Spikeball Tournament.
Following a tragic incident involving a drug overdose in the IFC community, Rocco spearheaded the implementation of Narcan Training and Naloxone distribution within the fraternity system—a first for Cornell University, setting a precedent that would be adopted university-wide the following year.
Addressing Challenges and Creating a Safer Community
Rocco's leadership was further tested in late 2022 when he faced the challenge of addressing sexual assault allegations within the IFC community. He responded by facilitating an emergency meeting that led to a temporary suspension of all fraternity social activities. This decisive action prefaced a broader plan to overhaul community safety protocols.
His continued commitment was evident as he played a pivotal role in developing the Sexual Violence Prevention plan, categorized under three pillars: Environmental, Empowerment, and Educational. This initiative not only aimed to change the culture within fraternities but also received broad support across the Cornell community, marking a significant achievement in his tenure.
Expanding Influence and Responsibility
Apart from his involvement with the IFC, Rocco also served as the Vice President of Finance at the Cornell Student Assembly, where he was instrumental in revising the Student Activity Fee-setting process. His efforts culminated in the approval of a significant fee increase that directly addressed the financial challenges faced by student organizations due to inflation.
National and Local Contributions
Beyond Cornell, Rocco was selected to serve on the North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) Advisory Council, contributing to national fraternity policies and mentoring other IFC officers. His local engagements included participation in the Food Marketing Fellows honors program and contributions to the Dyson Ambassadors and CALS Alumni Association Board, further showcasing his commitment to both his immediate and extended communities.
Recognition and Awards
Rocco's efforts and leadership were noticed. He was honored with membership in the Order of Omega Honor Society and the Der Hexenkreis Senior Honor Society, recognizing his academic excellence and leadership. Additionally, he received awards such as 1st Place in the 2023 Northeast Greek Leadership Association Order of Omega Case Competition. He was part of the team when Cornell IFC received the 2023 Outstanding Peer Governance Award from NIC.

Throughout his college summers, Rocco gained practical experience in the food industry through internships at Giovanni Foods, Mondelēz International, and Restaurant Brands International. These opportunities allowed him to apply his academic knowledge in real-world settings, enhancing his understanding of quality control, ingredient technology, and operational efficiency within the food industry.
